If this is happening to you, don’t stress. Dental implants might be just what you need to support your false teeth!

What are implant-supported dentures?

Have you ever had your dentures move around in your mouth while trying to chew your food or make an audible clicking sound while talking to friends or colleagues? We know that these instances can make living with false teeth a bit more challenging, especially for those with full dentures. Luckily, our Lawrenceville, GA, dentist can place denture-supporting dental implants into your mouth that will prevent these uncomfortable effects!

How do dental implants work?

A dental implant is a small metal post that is implanted into the jawbone where your missing tooth once was. While an implant is designed to replace a single missing tooth, if you are missing several or all of your teeth then multiple implants can be placed along the arches of the jawbone. Implant surgery is a simple outpatient procedure that is performed in-office under local anesthesia.

What makes implants so different from other tooth replacements is that over the course of several months (anywhere from 3-6 months, to be more precise) a naturally occurring phenomenon known as osseointegration will happen. This is when the jawbone heals around and integrated with the implant to become one. Once osseointegration is complete, the implant is now considered a lifelong dental restoration!

As you might imagine, once the implant and jawbone fuse together, the metal post becomes amazingly durable and immovable, thus making it perfect for supporting partial or full dentures. Once the implants are placed, your preexisting or brand new dentures will then be connected to the top of the implants to hold them firmly in place. Now you’ll no longer have to worry about teeth shifting awkwardly while trying to enjoy your favorite foods or during an important business meeting. Implants can improve the functionality of your dentures and raise your confidence!
